Michael Jackson family fail in AEG Live negligence court case

AEG Live have been found not guilty of negligence in relation to hiring the doctor who ultimately killed Michael Jackson.

The singer's family had taken the massive promotion company - who were due to stage his This Is It farewell concerts in London - to court asking for $290m (£180m) for emotional losses and unspecified amount for economic losses.

Dr Conrad Murray was jailed for four years for involuntary manslaughter after Jackson died in 2009 as a result of an overdose of the anaesthetic propofol.

The jury of the case decided that AEG did indeed hire Dr Murray, but they found that he was not unfit or incompetent for the job, meaning that the Jackson family would fail in their court bid.

The family claimed that the promoters failed to investigate Dr Murray's competence, whilst AEG had denied hiring the doctor, saying that Jackson personally asked to have him on board.

Dr Murray is due to be released from jail later this month after serving two years of his four year sentence.
