Lorde: 'Having an opinion doesn't make me a hater'

'Royals' songstress Lorde has hit out about the controversy surrounding her recent comments about her contemporaries and admitted that anything negative that's said is automatically taken out of context in the music industry.

Speaking to MTV News about how she was slammed for criticising Taylor Swift, the rising star explained that just because she had an opinion on the country-pop superstar that wasn't sugar-coated and sweet she was seen as a 'hater' by the press:

"I think there's a funny culture in music that's only happened over the last 15 years, that if you have an opinion about something in music that isn't 100-percent good, you're a 'hater'.

'Even if you have perfectly reasonable grounds for that critique. People will say exactly what they think about a movie, but as soon as you say it about a record, you're like some little zombie in a funny dungeon."
