John Newman: 'I want 50 years in music'

Singer-songwriter John Newman has revealed that while his debut album, 'Tribute', shot straight in at No.1 he wants to enjoy significant longevity with his career.

During a new interview with MTV News, the 'Cheating' hitmaker explained that he is aiming to carve out a path of success for himself that will extend beyond being a one hit wonder: "I haven't made it – I've still got 50 years to go."

"People might call me a flop in 50 years and people might not be listening to my music, but I'll still be making it and that's the plan."

He added that the celebrity scene is something he's interested in so hopefully that will give him more time to focus on his music: "I'm not into rolling out a nightclub at 3am with a celebrity girl over your shoulder and being in Heat magazine."

"I'd rather be loved for my music than a fake fame that is covering up that I don't make good music. I'm very wary of not becoming involved in that whole celebrity world – I'm cool just doing my music."
