Metallica to perform in Antarctica

Metallica are set to perform the second ever gig in Antarctica.

The US metal group will play a special show at the Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini on the South Shetland Islands on December 8.

Fans in Latin America can apply for tickets to the show, which is being put on in conjunction with Coca-Cola Zero.

However, the gig will see the band perform without amplification, with the audience picking up the music via headphones.

The concert will be streamed online to Latin America and shown worldwide at a later date.

In 2007, a group of scientists called Nunatak played the first ever music concert in Antarctica as part of the Live Earth event.

Metallica meanwhile have recently released their first ever 3D film Through The Never, which combines live footage as well as an interlinked movie plot.

The band formed in 1981 and have released such records as 'Ride the Lightning', 'Master of Puppets' and 'Metallica', which is more commonly known as the Black Album.
