James Blake wins the 2013 Mercury Prize

Dubstep artist James Blake won the 2013 Barclaycard Mercury Prize earlier this evening (October 30) for his impressive sophomore album, 'Overgrown'.

He triumphed over a host of distinguished acts such as David Bowie, who was nominated for his latest offering 'The Next Day', and Arctic Monkeys, who were up for the award with their new album 'AM'. Other finalists included Jake Bugg, Laura Mvula, and Foals.

The ceremony took place tonight at London's Roundhouse in Camden and the NME reports that host Lauren Laverne accidentally introduced James Blake as James Blunt, much to the amusement of the audience. Tweeting about the embarrassing faux paus, Laverne wrote:

"Never felt better than I do tonight about artists who have fractionally dissimilar fore and surnames. #MercuryPrize #Irony. Three letters."

Following the announcement of Blake's win, Laverne returned to the social networking site and joked that she had managed to get his name right the second time around: "BLAKE BLAKE BLAKE #nailedit #mercuryprize."
