Miley Cyrus called 'irresponsible' for smoking joint at the 2013 MTV EMAs

Over the weekend, superstar Miley Cyrus was at the 2013 MTV EMAs in Amsterdam where she collected a prize for Best Video and shocked the audience by lighting up a huge spliff on stage.

While the incident is currently being investigated by Dutch authorities, a spokesperson for the National Drug Prevention Alliance named David Raynes told London's Evening Standard that Cyrus shouldn't be promoting drugs so casually because she has lots of impressionable young fans:

"It is irresponsible. The people she is targeting with her performance are much more vulnerable to the effects of marijuana. We know from research that cannabis use has more of an effect on the younger brain than the brain of a more mature person."

"By doing this on stage she is making it a more acceptable lifestyle choice."

Lucy Dawe, of the anti-drugs organisation Cannabis Skunk Sense, added: "We are getting more and more of these high-profile people flouting the law and nothing seems to be done."
