Daft Punk and Sir Elton John vie for artwork award

The likes of Daft Punk and Sir Elton John have been nominated for this year's Art Vinyl award.

The prize celebrates the best in music artwork and a total of 50 covers have been nominated this year.

Other big names to feature in the list include Sir Paul McCartney, Goldfrapp and Queens of the Stone Age.

The nominees also include Pissed Jeans, Tunng and Yo La Tengo.

All of the artwork comes from albums and singles released in the last year, with Daft Punk nominated for their 'Get Lucky' track and Sir Elton John up for his 'The Diving Board' record.

Art Vinyl founder Andrew Heeps meanwhile said the nominees range from "mass market appeal to the weird and wonderful".

The winner of the award will be decided by a public vote. The victor will be announced on January 3.

All of the nominees' work will go on display at Art Vinyl Gallery in East London's Broadway Market, with Malmaison hotels across the UK also exhibiting some of the art.

Last year saw The Temper Trap's self-titled album artwork win the prize.
