Sam Bailey claims the UK's No. 1 Christmas single with 'Skyscraper'

X Factor winner Sam Bailey has won the title of Christmas No. 1 single with her debut release ‘Skyscraper’.

This time last week Sam Bailey was named the winner of the tenth series of 'The X Factor'. Seven days on and her cover of Demi Lovato’s ‘Skyscraper’ has sold 149,000 copies.

All proceeds from Bailey’s track will be donated to two causes: Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and Together For Short Lives.

Trailing behind Bailey at No. 2 is Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ which has risen by two places but was outsold by the X Factor victor by more than two copies to one.

At No. 3 is another X Factor winner with Leona Lewis’ ‘One More Sleep’ being a non-mover.

AC/DC have scored their first ever UK top ten single this week as their 1979 track ‘Highway To Hell’ has made it to No. 4 thanks to a social media-led campaign which aimed to keep Sam Bailey from the top spot. ‘Highway To Hell’ managed to sell 43,000 copies this week.

Avicii completes this week’s top five with ‘Hey Brother’ down three to No. 5.

A new entry to this week’s chart comes from the cast of ITV show ‘The Big Reunion’ with members of 5ive, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, B*Witched, Blue and The Honeyz covering Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ at No. 20.

British rave duo Altern-8 have made a return to the chart as part of another movement seeking to challenge the X Factor winner’s single from getting to No. 1. Their 1991 release ‘Activ 8 (Come With Me)’ has managed to reach No. 33.

This week’s high climbers include The Killers’ ‘Mr Brightside’ reaching No. 29, Kelly Clarkson’s festive ‘Underneath The Tree’ rising 16 places to No. 30 and Demi Lovato’s original rendition of ‘Skyscraper’ back in the top 40 at No. 37.
