Small US town dedicates day to Nirvana

US grunge icons Nirvana have been honoured with their own day in a small town in the US.

The band's late singer Kurt Cobain briefly lived in Hoquiam, Washington, which neighbours his home town of Aberdeen.

In commemoration of Nirvana's entry next year into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Hoquiam have decided to name April 10 'Nirvana Day'.

Mayor Jack Durney commented: "They bring great honour, I think as I say, to our entire community. And I think that it's good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while. I think it's good to honour our sons and their great accomplishments."

Nirvana will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on April 10 alongside Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall And Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt.
