Pete Tong and Katherine Jenkins in New Year's Honours list

Pete Tong and Katherine Jenkins are among the music related entries in this year's New Year's Honours list.

Radio DJ Tong will receive an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) whilst Jenkins will collect an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire).

The former has been honoured for services to broadcasting and music whilst the Welsh opera star has been noted for services to music and charity.

In a statement, Pete Tong said: "It's great to receive this honour for being a DJ. I'm proud that it acknowledges a profession that I care about a great deal, and one that's made a huge impact around the world.

"I'd like to thank BBC Radio 1 for its unerring commitment to dance and electronic music and for supporting and encouraging me for over two decades. I'd like to thank all the club promoters in the UK and around the world for their passion and commitment to putting on amazing events and the artists, producers and DJs that have been making and innovating with the music."

Katherine Jenkins meanwhile commented: "I am incredibly humbled to receive this great honour. To accept such an award after only a decade of service to music and charity, comes as a wonderful surprise. I share this award with the charitable bodies I am so privileged to work with, especially to those brave service men and women who risk so much for us all on a daily basis."
