Slipknot's Joey Jordison insists he didn't quit the band

Former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has broken his silence following his exit from the band to state that he did not actually quit the group.

The metal outfit's singer Corey Taylor confirmed in December that the talented sticksman and songwriter had left the group for "personal reasons", but he remained tight-lipped about the finer details.

The frontman added that Slipknot are "trying to protect him and "trying to protect us".

However, Jordison has now released a statement insisting that he did not leave the band, further adding to fans' confusion.

He said: "To my fans, friends, and associates…I would like to start the New Year by addressing the recent rumors and speculation regarding my departure from Slipknot I want to make it very clear that I did not quit Slipknot. This band has been my life for the last 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans.

"This news has shocked and blindsided me as much as it has all of you. While there is much I would like to say, I must remain silent to further details at this time. I would like to thank you all for your unwavering love and support, and wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year."

The Iowa band are expected to start work on the follow-up to their 2008 effort 'All Hope Is Gone' this coming year.
