Madonna criticised for calling kale "gay"

Madonna has been criticised for using the word "gay" as a negative term.

The singer was taking part in a word association game with Buzzfeed in which she had to write the first thing that came to mind after hearing a phrase.

When presented with the name of Russian President Vladamir Putin, the US icon wrote: "Gay."

However, when that was followed up with leafy green kale, Madonna also wrote "gay".

This displeased some readers of the article, with one user commenting:

"Saying kale is ‘gay’ is meant to convey that she doesn’t like it, so it is an insult. I am SO TIRED of people using ‘gay’ in a negative context."

Other responses Madonna gave were 'angry' to Hilary Clinton and 'free hands' to the term fannypack.
