Madonna unconcerned about age: 'I only think about it when people try to bring it up'

Madonna says she isn't fussed about being 50-plus in a youth-obsessed market.

The singer is aged 56 and she often faces criticism that she is perhaps too old for pop.

However, the 'Rebel Heart' hitmaker told the New York Times that she doesn't think about her age when working.

The US star said: "I don’t think artists think about their age when they are creating, do they?

"I only think about it when other people bring it up or try to limit me by saying, 'You are this age and so dot dot dot'."

Madonna added: "Because I’ve been marginalised as a female in a male-dominated world, and we’re in a sexist industry or a sexist world, I’ve always had to push against something or resist against something.

"I don’t think I’ve ever been relaxed, if you know what I’m saying. So because I’ve never been relaxed, I’m not going, oh, it used to be so easy. For me, it’s always been hard from day one."
