Madonna says lack of Radio 1 airplay is 'discriminatory and unfair'

Madonna has blasted her lack of Radio 1 airplay as "unfair".

The star's recent single 'Living For Love' failed to make it onto the BBC station's playlist.

This prompted fury from the singer's fans, but the network denied that they discriminate older artists.

Speaking to The Sun, Madonna said that she feels the apparent blacklisting was wrong.

The 56-year-old said: "When I heard, I was shocked. I was like, ‘Wait a second. Shouldn’t it be to do with whether you wrote a good, catchy pop song?’

"I thought it was so discriminatory and unfair. We’ve made so many advances in other areas - civil rights, gay rights - but ageism is still an area that’s taboo and not talked about and dealt with."

The single meanwhile features on Madonna's new album 'Rebel Heart', which should comfortably top the UK chart this weekend.

It has been outselling its nearest rival by three to one.
