Madonna lands highest new entry on UK album chart

Madonna may not have reached No. 1 with her latest album, but she has managed to have the best-selling new entry of the week.

Madge’s ‘Rebel Heart’ was beaten to No. 1 by Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ with 12,000 copies separating the two chart positions.

‘Rebel Heart’ is Madonna’s thirteenth studio album and has suffered numerous illegal leaks ahead of its official release date.

Behind Sam Smith and Madonna in this week’s Top Five are Ed Sheeran with ‘X’, a non-mover, at No. 3, ‘Chasing Yesterday’ by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds down three to No. 4, and George Ezra’s ‘Wanted On Voyage’ down one to No. 5.

Other than Madonna’s No. 2 debut, further new entries to the UK album chart come from Rebecca Ferguson at No. 7 with ‘Lady Sings The Blues’ and ‘Colours’ by Blue at No. 13.
