Madonna says daughter going to college sent her into the 'deepest depression'

Madonna has admitted that she was "deeply depressed" when her daughter Lourdes left for college.

The 18-year-old started a course at the University Of Michigan last year.

Speaking in a new interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Madonna revealed that she was left reeling when her beloved child departed.

The singer said: "My sister said it to me when her son went away. I was like, 'Oh my God, you're being so dramatic'. She was, like, bawling on the phone.

"And then my daughter left me, and I fell into the deepest depression. And I'm always so happy when she calls me and she says, 'Mommy, I miss you' or 'I need you to rub my head'. I'm still needed."

Madonna added that Lourdes comes home for holidays and recently brought back a 19-year-old boyfriend:

"He came to our house two weekends ago and spent the weekend with us. He's a very sensible boy – young man, I shouldn't say he's a boy. He's intelligent, so I'm happy about that."
