Deadmau5 blasts Madonna over drug reference

Superstar DJ Deadmau5 has criticised Madonna for referencing the MDMA drug during Saturday night’s surprise showing at the Ultra Music Festival.

The pop icon turned up unannounced at the Miami event to introduce Swedish producer Avicii’s headline set, but courted controversy when she asked the audience, "How many people in this crowd have seen molly?," the slang word for the drug which inspired her 12th studio album, 'MDNA.'

Speaking on his Facebook page, the mouse-head-wearing Canadian claimed the 53-year-old’s comments sent out the wrong signals to younger clubbers:

"Very classy there madonna. "HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???" such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f'n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! fucking cant smack my head hard enough right now.

“I can appreciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? That's your big contribution to EDM? That’s your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? fuck off you fucking IDIOT."

The 31-year-old, real name Joel Zimmerman, continued to blast Madonna’s actions further on his Tumblr page, adding: "It really hurts me to see rampant ADVOCATION of extreme bullshit lifestyles to a genre that spans pretty much any age gap these days ..."
