Madonna breaks Elvis Presley's solo record with 12th number one album

Madonna has today overtaken Elvis Presley's title as the solo artist with the most UK number one albums, after ‘MDNA’ gave her an incredible 12th chart-topper.

The follow-up to 2008’s ‘Hard Candy’ by far surpassed the poor showing of its singles, ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ and ‘Girl Gone Wild,’ by debuting at the top spot, meaning Madonna is now only three behind The Beatles’ all-time tally of 15 number one albums.

David Guetta’s ‘Nothing But The Beat’ had to settle for runner-up for the second consecutive week, just ahead of Top 10 ever-presents, Emeli Sande’s ‘Our Version Of Events,’ and Adele’s ‘21,’ whilst last week’s number one, Paul Weller’s ‘Sonik Kicks,’ dropped to ten.

Elsewhere, there were new entries from tenor Noah Stewart, metal pioneers Iron Maiden, and US rock acts Shinedown, Alter Bridge and The All American Rejects.
