Musicport are delighted to announce that Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band are to headline the Sunday night of this years Musicport Festival. The internationally acclaimed, Whitby-based musician and her rousing band will finish the festival proceedings on the Main Stage to complete their 2015 tour which has been celebrating 21 years of Eliza being a professional musician.  With a string of major festival appearances over the summer and into the autumn to finish their much lauded tour in her home town seemed to good an opportunity to miss and organiser Jim McLaughlin said “ We looked at all kinds of possible big name acts to finish the festival but in the end it had to be Eliza  with her strong local connections and astonishingly powerful musical heritage who would win the day. It now means that Sunday of Musicport now has 3 of the very top English folk acts in its line-up with The Demon Barbers  XL &  The Emily Portman Trio to complement all the international artists who will be also appearing at this annual 3 day celebration of music from around the world ”

And it shouldn’t end. This should be a show we can always have – ripping the roof off a marquee at the end of festivals. Because when Eliza Carthy is at her best there’s no one better. And this is Eliza Carthy at her best.” FRoots, Live Review  “And, of course, we already know the band is great. So what follows may not be a surprise – but it is completely thrilling… with Carthy dancing about at the centre of a joyful musical whirlwind, thrilling in the moment. Everyone – whether in the crowd or on the stage – is left with a huge, silly smile.” folkwitness.co.uk, Live Review   “Yorkshire’s finest, the rich-voiced Eliza Carthy was in full, ebullient flight as she opened in plaintive form with a lullaby, accompanied only by fiddle and melodeon, and went on to deliver old favourites such as Worcester City and Cold Blow, as well as a calypso learned from her mother, delivered with a wit and rumbustious panache which suited the full-blown band.” The Scotsman, Live Review  ‘It’s a proud career CV but more importantly it stands powerfully alone on its own considerable merits – vibrant, modern and relevant’  FRoots Magazine  ‘Her vision remains absolutely faithful to the story and expresses the song’s essential emotions. She accomplishes this with wit and exuberance – And this is her genius.. Every home should have a wayward daughter’   ***** Songlines Magazine  ‘A more fearsome performer than mum or dad, or indeed anyone else on the folk scene she’s helped to galvanise...a rich primer of a singular career’   Uncut  ‘Headstrong, determined, incorrigible and irreverent, Eliza Carthy did more than anyone to revoluntionise and rid English folk music of staid cliche ridden images’  Mojo  ‘Whatever she addresses she does so with warmth, intelligence and crate loads of personality’  Record Collector   2015 Acts appearing include Fanfara Tirana meets Transglobal Underground, (Albania/UK) Varldens Band, (Sweden) Afrikan Boy, (Nigeria) Dub Colossus  (Ethiopia), Terry Hall, Frigg (Finland) Tromboranga Salsa Orquesta (Spain), The Demon Barbers XL , Duke Special, Najmar Akhtar,(India/UK) The Kora Band (USA) The Hut People with Jess Morgan, Cajun Roosters, Ben Rogers, Paul Armfield, Emma and The Professor, Richard De Soussa, Will McNicol And Luke Selby, A Firm Of Poets, Ribbon Road, Maalstroom (Netherlands), and Naomi Bedford & Paul Simmonds.
