Wonderful Life Singer Fights for Life

'Wonderful Life' singer Fights for Life

Singer and songwriter Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) is in a critical condition in hospital in Ireland after a road traffic accident on the morning of Sunday Jan 10th, not far from Cork airport. He suffered a serious head injury and was placed in an induced coma.

Today, scans have revealed that the injuries to his brain are worse than feared and that he has only a slim chance of pulling through. He is in a stable condition, which is being managed by the amazing staff of the Intensive Treatment Unit of Cork University Hospital, with his family by his side. More scans are scheduled for Friday morning, however it is clear that if we are going to see an improvement, we will need a miracle.

We will be releasing this information to Colin's world-wide fans via social media as soon as we have been able to notify everyone who has a direct relationship with him and those who work with him. Camilla has asked that anyone who wants to, to send healing and positive energy to Colin between 12:00 and 14:00 GMT, tomorrow, Wednesday 20th in the hope of the miracle we need. We ask, as always, that the family are given space to deal with these difficult times in private.

We understand that you may wish to send some token of your love, however, the hospital is unable to accept flowers or gifts so, for the time being, it's probably best to just send emails or texts. We'll make sure they're received at the right time.

About Colin

Vearncombe enjoyed mainstream success in the late 1980s when 'Wonderful Life’  became a massive hit worldwide. The album of the same name, released in 1987, had similar success, reaping commercial and critical acclaim. 15 albums followed in the intervening 25 years on his own label, Nero Schwarz. His most recent album, ‘Blind Faith’ , was funded by a popular crowdfunding campaign.  Released in the summer of 2015 it received glowing reviews across the press, including 4 stars in The Guardian.

In the past three years, Vearncombe has returned to touring, having completed five headline tours in the UK as well as across Europe.  His most recent TV appearance was in November 2015 when he recorded a Catalan version of Wonderful Life as a fundraiser for the Catalan telethon La Marató de TV3. The recording has helped raise over seven million pounds for the charity.

The family have requested that anyone wanting to send messages of support for his recovery should post on his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/blackakacolinvearncombe or email longer messages to blacklist@colinvearncombe.com
