Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) Memorial Service

A public memorial service to celebrate the life of singer and songwriter Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) is being held on Friday 19th February 2016 at 7pm in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. Colin died on 26th January following a car accident in Ireland earlier in the month from which he never regained consciousness.  All are welcome.

Friends and fans from all over the world are flying in to join his family to say a final goodbye to the Liverpool singer that Q Magazine recently called “a singer-songwriter of distinction” and the Guardian noted was “a man very much in control of his gifts”.

At the service, tributes will made by his father Alan, his wife the Swedish singer Camilla Griehsel Vearncombe, his two managers and friends from the music industry and beyond.

Live music will be provided by many fellow musicians including Calum MacColl (who co-wrote Vearncombe’s final studio album ‘Blind Faith’), Gary Clark (from Danny Wilson, with whom he was due to write on the day of his accident) and Garry Christian (The Christians).

The media is kindly asked to respect that this is a memorial service and to clear any reporting with our press officer and management prior to the event.

Official photographs of the event for press and publication will be available shortly after the service finishes here:

No photographer passes will be issued other than the official one.

“Few other songwriters of his generation were quite as adept at Vearncombe when it came to setting battle-weary intimacies to an exquisite melody.” Pete Paphides, The Guardian
