Mariah Carey shares 3-year-old self-portrait: 'It's on the back cover of my new album'

Vocal powerhouse Mariah Carey has confessed that she wanted to use a personal picture as the album art for her new record, which is entitled 'Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse', because it reflects her journey.

Speaking about the album and cute drawing that can be seen on the back of it, she explained that the self-drawn portrait was something she made as a 3-year-old and she really wanted to incorporate it into her new album by putting it on the back cover:

"On the back cover of this album is a personal treasure. This is my first and only self-portrait. I drew it when I was 3-and-a-half  and entitled it, ‘Me. I am Mariah.’ Please don’t judge me for such a simplistic title … come on, I was only 3-and-a-half…"

"I’ve kept this stored in private for so long, but because this album is a reflection of some of the peaks and valleys that have made me who I am today, I’ve decided to share it with those of you who actually care and have been here for me through it all.”

Carey's forthcoming new album will be officially released on May 27
