Mariah Carey tops Ultimate Pop Stardom poll

Mariah Carey has been named pop music’s ultimate star in a poll conducted by Time magazine.

Time crowned Mariah after they looked at all of their top ten lists dating back to 1960 and assigned points for each week that a song was on the list.

Artists who made the ultimate Top 20 list were judged according to chart performance and contemporary significance.

Mariah Carey beat her competitors thanks to the consistency and longevity of her pop career, during which she has accumulated top ten records over a period of 19 years.

Despite recently splitting from her husband Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey’s career has not been halted by changes to her personal life. Earlier this summer the ‘Hero’ singer launched a non-alcoholic beverage called Butterfly and announced October tour dates.

Mariah’s Elusive Chanteuse Show will so far only play to fans in Asia but further dates are expected to be unveiled.
