Nick Cannon has commented on his separation from Mariah Carey.

The US TV personality married the singer in 2008 and they have two children, Monroe and Morocco.

However, it was revealed in August that the pair had split up.

Speaking to Extra on Wednesday (October 8), Cannon said that he is taking things slowly as he gets over the break-up.

He said: "I’m just taking everything one day at a time, and just being the best person that I can possibly be at the end of the day."

Cannon added that they speak regularly and that their children are out on tour with Carey.

Talking meanwhile about criticism levelled against the singer's current live vocal talents, Cannon said:

"You know you might have an off night here and there, but she’s one of the greatest performers and entertainers of our time - she’s not worried, we’re not worried, we’re just going to keep pushing."
