Mariah Carey confirmed for Macy's 4th of July fireworks performance

'We Belong Together' vocal sensation Mariah Carey has been announced as one of the performers at Macy's 4th of July fireworks display.

The superstar will treat patriotic event goers in New York City, along with viewers at home, to a live set and the event is due to be broadcast live on NBC from 9pm ET on Thursday, July 4. Country hitmaker Tim McGraw will also perform live.

EVP of Specials and Late Night, Doug Vaughan, explained that Carey was an easy choice for the Manhattan-based Independence Day celebration: "Mariah Carey and Tim McGraw are the perfect complement to Macy's exceptional fireworks display. NBC is thrilled to have these amazing artists join us in celebrating America's birthday."

R&B sensation Usher has been asked to curate the extravaganza and will "lend his artistry and vision" to the fireworks display. Executive producer of Macy's fireworks display, Amy Kule, added that Usher will bring a new dynamic to the show: "This year Macy's 4th of July Fireworks will be transformed into a giant party in the sky captivating audiences along the Hudson River and on television screens across the country."

"Since 1976, Macy's Fireworks have grown in scale and artistry. With this collaboration with Usher, we are taking the show to the next level of entertainment spectacle, combining the very best of Macy's Fireworks with Usher's unparalleled artistic vision."
