Radio 1 Extra Already Spotted Emma Blakk’s Fresh Raw Talent.

East end council blocks and being raised by a single parent are no match for singing and songwriting talent, as shown by Emma Blakk who launches her first single and has already recorded a 7 track self-penned EP Council Block Dreamer.

Fresh new urban singer-songwriter Emma Blakk’s first single Sirens will be released on 14 March 2014.

Since the age of 12, Emma Blakk has been finding ways to sing in front of an audience, which makes the strong support she has already received from the likes of CJ Beatz on Radio 1 Xtra hardly surprising. She has covered songs by Jason Derulo and Prince, which can be seen on Youtube alongside the official video for Divided We Fall, the second track on Council Block Dreamer EP.

Fan Queue

New fans must join the queue behind SBTV, Link Up TV, Urban Development and Soul Culture. Emma Blakk has put on shows at London’s grittiest live venues including Milly’s World in Camden, plus she has showcased at monthly night.

Knew Knowledge, run by Warner A & R Ryan Farley and CJ Beatz.  A weekly live music night in Shoreditch, Music is My Drug also boasts Blakk’s performances.

Written entirely by Blakk herself, Council Block Dreamer is a collection of songs detailing her life and career thus far. With production primarily from Jordan Crisp (and additional production from OD Hunte & Lockz) the pair spent much of their time establishing a unique working relationship likened to those of Emeli Sandé & Naughty Boy and Ellie Goulding & Starsmith.

Determination

After her parents split up, Emma’s mother took her from the estate in Leyton to be raised in Bolton, but the struggles of the east end provided Emma with her determination to change her circumstances by moving back to her roots to act out her musical dreams.

Drawing on her abilities in lyric and melody, Emma escues the trend for tough female emcees in the urban underground scene to create songs that deal with her life so far. Emma is unafraid of the dark side and details everyday battles with raw emotion in her lyrics, balanced with her lighter and fun side. Listeners are invited to relate to all Emma’s ups and downs through the honesty in her songwriting.

Freestyle

Last year, Emma let her presence as an artist felt when she performed a freestyle entitled ‘Breakdown,’ produced by Davinche, in which she unravels her struggles, melodically venting over knife sharp strings and a dub-esque bassline.
