Melanie C says she often wonders about how young acts like One Direction are coping with their new-found fame.

The singer achieved global notoriety in the 1990s with Spice Girls.

One Direction similarly became a household name after they appeared on the UK X Factor in 2010.

Speaking to The Metro, Melanie C she can relate to the One Direction lads when it comes to dealing with fame.

Former singer Zayn Malik has cancelled some recent solo gigs due to anxiety.

She said: "Something that I want to look into is the mental health of young artists. I feel after my time with the Spice Girls, nothing can prepare you for that kind of fame.

"I look at the boys from 1D and think, ‘I wonder how they are coping’ because I have experienced that fame."
