Spice Girl Mel C "nervous" ahead of African river challenge

Melanie C, of Spice Girls fame, has confessed that while she's excited to journey along the Zambezi River she is anxious about being out of touch with her young daughter.

She arrived in Africa over the weekend for the adventurous Comic Relief challenge, which will see her venture down the huge river in boats and on rafts, and told Britain's Hello! magazine that she's dreading having limited contact with her family and 3-year-old Scarlet:

"When we're on the river we're pretty much out there on our own. We're not taking our phones on the river - we're going to have our hands full with oars, anyway."

"It'll be the longest I've ever not had contact with her, so I'm quite nervous. That will be a challenge in itself. But she's well looked after here (in Britain); she's got grandparents and friends and daddy around, so she'll be absolutely fine."

Other celebrities joining Mel C on the trek include comedian Dara O'Briain, Jack Dee and Greg James.
