Miley Cyrus on depression: 'My dad had to break my door down'

Singer and actress Miley Cyrus has revealed that she was once so depressed that her father had to bash down her bedroom door to get to her because she had hidden herself away and couldn't pull herself out of the low point.

During a new interview with Elle magazine, the former Disney starlet opened up about her struggles with depression over the years, admitting that she would physically lock herself away:

"I went through a time where I was really depressed. I locked myself in my room and my dad had to break my door down... I had really bad skin, and I felt really bullied because of that. But I never was depressed because of the way someone else made me feel, I just was depressed."

The 'We Can't Stop' superstar went on to add that her fans are her silver lining and they give her something to fight for and to look forward to: "That gives me a big purpose - a reason to wake up in the morning. That’s bigger than to put on my f**cking feathers and my little outfits."

“I have guys and girls that come out, and they’re like, ‘The only reason I’m able to admit that I’m gay is because you’ve made me feel like that’s okay.’ That is so intense, because that is a part of this generation - it wasn’t always accepted - and I feel like I am a big part of that change. Or they know that I’ve struggled with depression, and that helped them get over theirs."
