Miley Cyrus did a video chat with People yesterday (March 29) to talk about her new role in NBC's The Voice.

The 23-year-old is a show key advisor and joins coaches, Pharrell Williams, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. She will return as a coach later this year.

Cyrus told People: "I didn't really know what to expect from the show... I didn't realise how real it was. It's about making things your own... Being yourself.

"You have this platform to bring light to people and to bring hope to people, and I think that's what this show does."

The 'Wrecking Ball' singer made her debut as The Voice key advisor last night (March 29).

Cyrus is also due to perform at the late David Bowie's memorial concert at Radio City Hall in New York this Friday (April 1).
