Miley Cyrus discusses her Disney past: "They try to make someone not grow up"

Miley Cyrus has been opening up about her past as a child star.

The now 20-year-old recording artist shot to fame at the age of 11 when she was cast as the lead character Hannah Montana in a Disney television series.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Cyrus stated: “I don’t think I’ve ever had to exorcise Hannah because I think people knew I was different from her in real life.”

The ‘We Can’t Stop’ starlet also expressed the distance she felt from her squeaky-clean onscreen persona as she explained:

“Most people on Disney act as if they are really like their characters but I never felt the need to do that. I never pretended I was as good as what Disney writes.”

She continued: “They try to make someone not grow up but you can’t do that to real, normal people.”

Cyrus also revealed that Disney still receive fan mail concerning her television character despite the fact the ‘Hannah Montana’ programme came to an end in January 2011.

Miley divulged: “You’d be amazed at the letters Disney get sent. They say stuff like ‘I can’t believe she spoke to her dad like that’ or ‘I can’t believe she wore that shirt’. 'Why does the lead star have boobs?’ Err, because she’s a female. It’s crazy.”

The American singer and actress previously revealed that she considered changing her name in order to separate herself from her Disney roots.
