Miley Cyrus has revealed that she originally wanted to go topless at the MTV VMAs.

The singer turned heads at the August awards ceremony by dancing seductively with Robin Thicke and using a foam hand provocatively.

Many thought her performance straddled the boundaries of taste, but speaking to Britney Spears in new MTV documentary Miley: The Movement, Cyrus admitted that she wanted to go one further and show even more skin. She said:

"I tried [to perform topless], but I don't think MTV's going to allow it."

The singer and Spears teamed up for the song 'SMS' on Cyrus's new album 'Bangerz', which can be streamed on iTunes ahead of its release on Monday (October 7) in the UK.

Miley: The Movement meanwhile will be shown on MTV UK on Thursday (October 3) at 8pm.
