Miley Cyrus: "I think Sinead O'Connor is an incredible artist"

Miley Cyrus has responded in detail about her apparent spat with Sinead O'Connor.

The rift began when the Irish singer recently questioned the 'We Can't Stop' star in an open letter, suggesting that she is being taken advantage of by the industry.

It soon escalated, with Cyrus coming under fire for apparently making fun of mental illness in a Twiiter retort.

Speaking on the Today Show, the 'Wrecking Ball' singer praised O'Connor's ability and legacy, but expressed confusion over how the 'feud' heightened so quickly. Cyrus said:

"I think she's an incredible artist. I think she's an awesome songwriter, and I was really inspired by her for my 'Wrecking Ball' video, which was what started the whole thing. I don't know how someone can start a fight with somebody who said, 'Hey, I really respect you. And I really love what you what you did'. 'You know what? You suck! I don't like you!'."

She added: "That was kind of crazy. But as I said, I'm a big fan of hers, so it doesn't really matter. It's all good."
