Iconic singer Morrissey has revealed that he was "officially dead for nine minutes" on his last tour of South America. 

The star told Alternative Nation rock website that he's looking forward to returning to the area, but had a terrifying experience with food poisoning the last time he was there in 2013, which caused him to be hospitalised and almost resulted in his death:

"I'm also always excited to be in South America, even though the last visit to Peru gave me food poisoning and I officially died for nine minutes. That was fun."

Morrissey, meanwhile, recently told Spanish newspaper El Pais that he would never crowd-fund a creative project because he thinks it looks 'desperate': "It is a desperate measure, and insulting to your audience. We have already provided sufficient amounts of money. What is the next thing you're going to ask?... (Touring is) the only option left (and) luckily (for) me (it) is very good and exciting."
