Muse return to the studio

British rock trio Muse have shared a series of photographs via Instagram that confirm they have returned to the studio to work on their forthcoming new album.

While the band have been cautious not to release any specific information, they accompanied the photograph show below with the caption 'Day 1'. They shared another image, this time of the boys standing over a sound board, which has the caption: "Listening to some FAT bass distortion."

The final thing uploaded to the app by the band was a short video clip, in which you can see Bellamy playing his guitar.

Earlier this summer, a fan quizzed frontman Matt Bellamy on the direction of their next record and he teased fans by publicly replying with a message that hints at a heavier sound: "It's gonna get heavy... [it's] going well. We hope to have it ready for next summer."

Just before Christmas last year, the 'Uprising' hitmakers confessed that there's a possibility that a single might surface by the end of 2014 although the album won't make an appearance until 2015. Bellamy said: "I've written some good tracks, actually. We haven't had a chance to rehearse them out yet. We'll take a break next year for a little few months and then we'll get in the studio. If it all goes very well, the new album could well be early 2015 or late 2015. Christmas 2014 might be [when we release] our next single."
