UK’s 1st Accountancy Spin-Off Label Launches, Bringing Record-Keeping to Record-Making

- Started by one of UK’s first cloud-only accountancy practices, LimeGreen
- Offers monthly accounting and payment
- Former Epic Records’ Ian Dench (EMF) to oversee development and A&R

Cloud-based accountancy firm for the creative industries LimeGreen launched LGM Records last night, a brand new independent label with transparency at the top of its agenda.

Going against the industry standard of quarterly accounting once recouped, LGM Records will use their custom built royalty software and the accountancy’s infrastructure to report to artists on a monthly basis, regardless of their recoupment status. Once recouped, artists will also be paid monthly. Appointed distributor AWAL will provide detailed analytics.

Kaziu Gill and Felix Matthews, keen musicians and founders of the label and LimeGreen, plan to harness their business and finance expertise to keep artists informed, especially those in the early stages of their career.

The pair have brought in Goldheart Assembly’s James Dale to head up the label. The singer-songwriter has sampled every aspect of the industry, previously managing acts such as Lyla Foy, setting up a label with Black Cab Sessions founder Chris Pattinson, and running live music nights at venues such as The Groucho Club, Madame Jojo’s, 93 Feet East, and the Rock Garden.

James’ expertise is complimented by newly appointed Development Consultant, Ian Dench. The former vice president of A&R for Epic Records has written hit singles for artists including Beyonce, Shakira and The Prodigy, but is perhaps best known for writing the global smash hit, Unbelievable, for his own band, EMF.

The label’s first release will be from Dutch act Jo Goes Hunting with their single Winner coming early summer. The band are joined on the roster by alternative collective Munro Fox, and alt pop outfit Mono Club, whose album is due late 2017.

The label has also launched a publishing division in partnership with Sentric Music, who recently received a multi-million pound investment. LGM Publishing uses the same contract model as their sub-publisher, meaning songwriters are free to opt out whenever they like, regaining their catalogue in 28 days.

Kaziu Gill, Founder of LimeGreen Accountancy and LGM Records said: “Once just a conversation in a pub, LGM Records is now inverting the stereotype of accountants to provide groundbreaking services to our artists. I am immensely proud of our founding team, who are incredibly innovative and keep transparency at the heart of everything we do.”

James Dale, Label Manager at LGM Records, commented: “I am very proud to have been asked to head up this forward-thinking new label. We want to give artists a platform that will not only help them take the next step in their career, but also understand how to operate with a business mentality.”

Ian Dench, Development Consultant at LGM Records, added “It’s great to be working alongside James and to be part of such a new and exciting record label.”

LGM Records was officially launched last night at the Groucho Club in Soho with an intimate evening of acoustic performances, including the label’s new signing, electro pop outfit Jo Goes Hunting, whose debut UK single Winner will be released early summer.

The event was a continuation of LGM Live - a series of monthly music nights at the infamous members’ club. Having previously teamed up with labels like Communion Records to showcase artists such as Dan Croll, the popular invite-only nights have also attracted artists such as Ed Harcourt, Starsailor, The Magic Numbers, and Fiona Bevan, as well as showcasing up and coming talent.
