Nicki Minaj says new album goes back to her "hip-hop roots"

Nicki Minaj believes her upcoming new album revisits her "roots".

The singer is expected to unleash the record 'The Pink Print' later this year as she follows up 2012's 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded'.

She has already unveiled two new tracks 'Lookin' Ass' and 'ChiRaq' - and the former American Idol judge told MTV that her album is following a natural path back to her origins.

Minaj said: "The tracks on 'The Pink Print' are back to my hip-hop roots. And I don't think it's something that I'm necessarily trying to do. As soon as I started working on my new album, that's just the songs that I've been writing."

The rapper added that she might release a new track soon that sounds "nothing like" the other two newbies, saying:

"I'm just gonna do what my heart tells me to do."

Minaj meanwhile is currently promoting the film The Other Woman, which she has a role in.

The romantic comedy flick, which also features the likes of Cameron Diaz, is due to be released in the UK on April 25.
