Nicki Minaj doesn't care for music gongs

International superstar Nicki Minaj makes music for the love - not for the prospect of picking up accolades.

The 29-year-old singer received four nominations at the star-studded American Music Awards (AMAs) in Los Angeles on Sunday - including Favourite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop, Favourite Album - Rap/Hip-Hop, Favourite Female Artist - Pop/Rock and Favourite Album Pop/Rock.

Despite picking up both gongs in the Rap/Hip-Hop categories, Minaj insists she doesn't care for industry recognition.

She explained: "I don't do music for awards. It's so crazy because people always have to remind me that I'm nominated for an award when I go to award shows.

She added to the Associated Press: "I know they're going to come. I'm sitting here looking at my awards right now. I never stress it. I think of myself as ‘I'll have a career long enough to get all those different awards."

After performing her single 'Freedom' on the AMAs stage, Minaj joined big-winner Justin Bieber during his set for their catchy collaboration 'Beauty And A Beat.'

The rap star was excited to take to the stage alongside the Canadian heartthrob:  “I'm very, very proud of the record and I'm happy that people are going to get to hear it. I'm performing a hip-hop song on the AMAs, and I think that's just a big look for hip-hop."
