Nicki Minaj: 'I heard 'American Idol' staff saying Mariah didn't want me on the panel'

Rap sensation Nicki Minaj sat down with Ellen DeGeneres recently to talk about her new role on 'American Idol' and confessed that she overheard some unpleasant about herself things on set.

Late last year, footage of the 'Starships' hitmaker emerged that showed her arguing with fellow panelist Mariah Carey and stories about the pair's working relationship have been all over the press ever since. Minaj admitted to DeGeneres that following their fight, she felt a bit like an outsider after hearing people talk about her:

"I was, like, just sitting there and I guess before I went in there, I heard all this stuff that was being said, but I didn't believe it. I heard them saying, like, 'Mariah doesn't want you on the panel.' But I was saying, 'No, I'm friends with Mariah.'"

"I was arguing people down. Like, 'Don't believe everything you read! You're crazy.' So I went there, and I started feeling a little bit of 'the shade.' And I just kind of overcompensated by being crazier."

She added that after going through that she started acting up as a defense mechanism: "It's like a defense mechanism. It's really that your feelings are hurt…so you kind of just compensate by being crazy."
