Nicki Minaj inspired by Madonna's motherhood, but says "no, no, no" to kids for now

Nicki Minaj, who recently quit social networking site Twitter, has admitted that while she likes children she certainly has no plans to have any in the near future.

In a new interview, the 'Starships' rapper explained that her career doesn't allow for a linear life set to the same kind of timeline as people who aren't in the music industry, but she was inspired by Madonna's ability to both raise children and still be seen as the Queen of Pop:

"[Madonna made me realise that] having kids can be done because I saw her kids coming to rehearsals and that really moved me. But no kids any time soon. No, no, no."

Instead, Minaj stressed that she would rather "represent an entire generation" and is happy to stay focused on being an important figure in modern music:

"I represent an entire generation and I'm not going to allow myself to be defined. So the fans do get the crazy stuff but they also get the uplifting things and they start realising that I'm a multifaceted artist.

Rap sensation Nicki Minaj has teased details of her love life and explained that while certain alter-egos of hers don't make it under the covers, other ones do.

Speaking to Big Boy's Backstage Breakfast Show on Power 106 in the USA, Minaj revealed that she doesn't bring her well-loved character Roman into the bedroom, but that's not to say there aren't others:

"No, they don’t come out in the bedroom, but other people come out in the bedroom. And there’s only one person that would know who that personality is."

Her cryptic remark prompted questions about her relationship status, to which the 'Super Bass' hitmaker admitted:

"Actually, I'm single for you nosy little wozzies."

Nicki Minaj reveals tough childhood inspired her to be successful

Nicki Minaj has revealed that her tough upbringing made her more determined to be successful.

The 29-year-old, who has previously discussed wanting to kill her father because of his violent outbursts, said that the lack of material possessions as a youngster gave her the motivation to forge a lucrative career:

"In the business you have to be used to really having all the doors closed. So when you have a childhood where you are used to being told 'no' and you're used to not being able to get the best Christmas gifts, you are accustomed to not always getting what you want. But then you become accustomed to working for it.

"I never want to go back to being poor. Once you have a taste of that you will always be driven. I know what that felt like and I don't want to feel it ever again. So yeah, I mean my childhood was crazy but it got me to the point where I had so much faith in whatever I was doing. I just always feel where there's a will there's a way and I live my entire life that way now."

The ‘Super Bass’ star, who this week revealed she was approached by Simon Cowell to join the judging panel of The X-Factor USA, went onto admit that her poor childhood prepared her for the pressures of fame:

''If you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth and you come into this business you're going to get let down a lot. And it will probably send you crazy. This is only for the mentally strong. If you're not then it's not going to work.''

Nicki Minaj has revealed that she was approached by Simon Cowell to become a judge on X Factor USA.

The show is currently without two of its judges after both Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul left for pastures new after the end of the first series.

Minaj told ITV's The Hot Desk that she had talked about a possible role on the show with Cowell but they had mutually agreed it wasn't something they should pursue. She said:

"Yes. Well, I don't think I can talk about that."

She continued: "I think we both decided together that it wouldn't work out. I think it was the best decision."

As previously reported, the 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' singer recently announced plans to release her first ever fragrance, with Minaj stating that she is keeping her fans in mind when deciding on the scent.

The ‘Starships’ singer, who this week announced plans to launch her own fragrance, was on the set of the shoot for ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ when the Material Girl planted a kiss on her lips just days before her 29th birthday.

Discussing the incident on The Graham Norton Show, Minaj said: "You can't really call it making out. She kissed me but I didn't kiss her. I wasn't expecting it and was shocked like everyone else. I was shaking and thinking, 'Is this really happening and why is she doing this?'”

The Trinidadian-born star, who alongside M.I.A. also appeared with Madonna at her half-time Superbowl show, continued: "It was the strangest thing, except she had very soft lips... I guess you could say that (she's a good kisser), but we didn't hang around in that lip locking thing. It wasn't all drawn out and crazy."

The rap sensation explained to MTV News that she will never try to be anyone else and her upbringing helped shaped the woman she is today, so there's no way she will turn her back on where she came from:

"I'm still me, hip-hop culture is still in my heart. That can never leave me. I know I'm always gonna be street, because I can't pretend to be street. It's a lot of people walking around here pretending to be that, but I ain't gonna call nobody out right now."

She also joked that because of how people have reacted to her finding fame she isn't even sure how to prove her dedication to the genre anymore so may need to do something drastic to maintain or restore her credibility:

"What can I say? I don't know what I gotta do anymore. I don't know what I can possibly do. What I gotta do? Go and rob a bank?"

The 'Starships' hitmaker revealed that while the comparisons never infuriate her, she is getting bored with being likened to other singers because she feels as though she has carved out her own path in the industry and has made an effort to stand out:

"First of all, I'm a rapper. I'm from south Jamaica, Queens. What are the similarities?... Wigs? Every female in this game wears wigs. Over-the-top costumes? Ehh. Try again."

"It's getting tired now though, to me. In the beginning I was like, okay, it's cool, hahaha, when they get to know me they'll understand me. Gaga is a fantastic artist. She's paved her way. She's opened her own lane. But I feel like I have my own lane. And we never cross, ever!"

Nicki Minaj has cited Madonna as the major influence on her career.

“I had the pleasure of working with her, obviously, and I feel like she’s really changed and reinvented not only herself but pop culture.

“So what inspired me about Madonna is that she’s able to balance all of this with her family and her personal life. I was like, ‘how do you do this, you know, with your children’ and she’s a great mom. you know, she’s just everything.”

The ‘Super Bass’ star, who is set to knock Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ off the UK number one spot with her second studio effort, ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,’ later today, also revealed how Marilyn Monroe inspired her to write the album track of the same name.

Asked about the sex siren, she said: “It was just like a longing for something, like a longing for approval. I feel like a lot of women in power, or successful women, as successful as they are, they have that desire to still be loved, to still be always, you know, great, to still be approved. And, it’s like no matter how many times you tell them they’re great, they don’t believe it.”

Nicki Minaj has suggested that she would be up for collaborating with Beyoncé.

The 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' star has an illustrious history with collaborations, having recently worked with Madonna, for example.

Speaking to radio station Breakfast Club, Minaj said that she's only really got one more potential collaboration in mind. When asked who she would like to work with in the future, Minaj replied:

"My fans want a Beyoncé collab. That's the only one."

Minaj meanwhile spoke about music rivalries - stating that she always "rises to the occasion every time". She added:

"These little spats and these little issues, I rise to the occasion every time. A lot of girls want it, but they haven't been tested so much along the way. A rap battle, I could do that in my sleep now. I'm trying to get paper. I watch what Jay-Z did and I feel like if he could do it, I could do it. Just cause I'm a girl, doesn't make me any different."

Nicki Minaj: "I'm never gonna be one dimensional"

Nicki Minaj has revealed that her new album will prove to people that she is more than just a "caricature" with one style.

The rap sensation has just released her sophomore record 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' and explained to MTV News that the diverse tracklisting will show her fans and the public alike that she is "never gonna be one dimensional":

"I think I went from being a caricature in people's eyes to becoming someone with a lot of layers. You just gotta realise that I'm never gonna be one dimensional. Even my core fans I think, at times, thought I was one-dimensional when I was doing mixtapes."

"However, even on the mixtapes, I was singing and I did a song called 'Can Anybody Hear Me' on one of my mixtapes where I was singing and talking about being a female rapper and trying to get signed."

She added that now she is free from the constraints of the all important debut album, she can make the kind of music she truly wants to because the foundations have been laid:

"It's just been peeling back the layers and now I think the ultimate layer was me saying, 'Now I'm gonna do whatever kind of music I want to do and you're free to not like it.' This new album, 'Roman Reloaded', when I tell you I am not nervous, I am not fearful - all of those emotions left."
