Nicola Roberts has defended Cheryl Cole after the singer secretly married.

As previously reported, the singer recently revealed that she wed Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini on July 7 at Mustique beach in a surprise ceremony.

The couple have reportedly only been together for a matter of months and this has led some into questioning whether the wedding was too soon.

However, her Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts took to Instagram to back Cole, saying:

"For the Versinis, but mostly for her, who is happier than ever..."

She then added a picture which reads: "You can be in a relationship for two years and feel nothing; you can be in a relationship for two months and feel everything. Time is not a measure of quality; of infatuation, or of love."
