Former Nine Inch Nails drummer finds 'Call Me Maybe' mash-up "offensive"

Former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna has revealed his displeasure at a mash-up of one of the band's songs and Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe'.

The pop singer's hit track has spawned numerous internet parody videos and Nine Inch Nails' 'Head Like A Hole' was mashed up with the Jepsen track.

It doesn't seem to have sat well with Vrenna, however, who performed with the industrial alt-rockers in the late 1980s and the 90s.

He told TMZ that the mash-up was "offensive" and "insulting" to his former band's music. Vrenna said:

"Honestly I find the whole thing silly and partly offensive...I find it kind of insulting. It has trivialised something we've done. I am proud of what we've done and to take art - just to be a joke - I don't have any respect for it."

Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor meanwhile recently announced plans to tour this year with a new line-up, including King Crimson man Adrian Belew.

Trent Reznor wards off vampires

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has confirmed that he won't be contributing anything to Tim Burton's new movie 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'.

News recently surfaced that Golden Globe award-winning Reznor had written a score for the film and could potentially appear in the motion picture as an actor, but over the weekend he took to the NIN Forums to clear up the rumours:

"Don't believe everything you read. As it turns out, I WON'T be working on (acting or scoring) ALVH after all. There's no juicy story here, it's just that when the news mysteriously leaked out about my involvement I hadn't made up my mind completely, because various aspects of the project were changing."

Despite deciding to avoid this project, the 'Head Like A Hole' star reassured fans that he is still very commited to the HBO series 'Year Zero', which is said to be based around the NIN album of the same name:

"We're still fully engaged with the Year Zero mini-series, writing away."

Watch an interview with Reznor, in which he talks about his Oscar winning score for 'The Social Network', here:

Trent Reznor reignites his frustration

Trent Reznor again why he has decided to quit using Twitter as a way to stay in touch with his fans.

The singer expressed his frustration at the fact that unwanted followers cannot be completely blocked from the social networking website.

"Yes, I deleted my account and I'll explain why since somehow someone apparently thinks this is newsworthy, " Reznor wrote.

"Twitter seemed like an interesting way to quickly reach a large number of people, and people that seem to exist outside of the nin.com world of fans. Then...around the time news broke of my engagement, a faction of troublemakers showed up whose sole intent was to disrupt, harass, insult and incite…In a reasonably moderated community, these people can be made to vanish - on Twitter, it's a free-for-all - hence they flock there. It depresses me to think my art and life's work can attract this kind of scum…if that was your intention you trolling, cowardly pigs - you've succeeded."

On a lighter note, Reznor went on to say that although Nine Inch Nails are playing their "last shows for the foreseeable future", his "best work is yet to come".

He added that the Nine Inch Nails' Blackberry application, which follows the release of the band's own iPhone application, has had some hiccups and will take longer to complete than expected.

Nine Inch Nails announce final shows

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has announced that the band will play a final "handful of shows" in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, beginning August 22.

While NIN originally planned to stop performing in the U.S. for good after the tour with Jane's Addiction that wrapped June 12, Reznor wrote in a post on the band's website, "the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight - it just didn't feel right to end NIN that way."

NIN also has dates scheduled across Europe and Asia through August 15.

The post also announced that NIN will be a headline act at Toronto's Virgin Fest, with dates to be announced shortly.

Trent Reznor abandons Twitter

Trent Reznor, aka Nine Inch Nails, has gone from Twitter enthusiast to hater in less than a week.

From his website:

"The problem with really getting engaged in a community is getting through the clutter and noise. In a closed environment like nin.com a lot of this can be moderated away, or code can be implemented to make it more difficult for troublemakers to persist. It's tedious and feels like wasted energy doing that (s--t), but some people exist to ruin it for others - and they (sic) are the ones who have nothing better to do with their time....Looks like the Metal Sludge contingency has discover Twitter! Finally! For those of you that don't know what this is, please let me explain. Metal Sludge is the home of the absolutely worst people I've ever come across. It's populated mainly by unattractive plump females who publicly fantasize about having sex with guys in bands. Kind of like a role-playing game where people NOBODY will (f--k) make up stories about their incredible sexual encounters with people they WISH they could (f--k). It would be kind of funny in a sad and pathetic way except the fun doesn't stop there - hate and good old-fashioned outright blatant racism are also encouraged to spice things up and remind you how truly ugly these scourges are. TRULY ugly on the inside (the outside is obvious)."
