Noel Gallagher replaced drug habit with 'footwear obsession'

Former Oasis hitmaker Noel Gallagher has revealed that when he finally kicked his drug habit he felt the need to obsess over something so began collecting trainers.

Speaking to Britain's The Independent newspaper, the musician explained that in order to stay away from the substances that set him back an estimated $1.6 million (£1 million) he had to turn his attention to something else more wholesome:

"When I gave up drugs I had to obsess about something, and I'm not into cars, not into jewellery and all that kind of thing, and I had loads of guitars, so I set off on a quest to collect Adidas trainers (sneakers). I had silly amounts - you couldn't open a cupboard without 20 pairs of Adidas trainers falling out."

Gallagher added that his collection topped 100 pairs at one point although he has now whittled it down to the essentials and special edition pairs: "I kept the best ones back, I've probably got about 20 or 30 real vintage pairs, and I put the rest back out there - I gave them to charity shops. Funnily enough when I go to Camden market (in London) I still see some of my pairs there and I've been very tempted to buy them back."
