Olly Murs: "I'm not taken seriously because of my X Factor roots"

Olly Murs believes he isn't taken "properly" seriously because he came from the X Factor.

The singer appeared on the TV talent show in 2009, coming runner-up to eventual winner Joe McElderry.

Speaking to the Independent, Murs said that he empathises with Robbie Williams - because he wasn't treated too seriously when he initially left Take That in 1996. He said:

"Robbie [Williams] has always seen himself as the underdog, and I feel that way as well. He was never taken seriously because he came from a boyband."

The Xtra Factor host, who is supporting Williams on his UK stadium tour this summer, continued: "I'm not taken seriously - not properly seriously - because I came from a reality TV show. He always fought against that, and so do I. He won, and I hope I will too."

Olly Murs' new single 'Army Of Two' meanwhile is due to be released on March 10 in the UK.
