Olly Murs on his departure from Xtra Factor: 'Presenting was always a part-time thing for me'

Olly Murs has commented on the news that he will not be returning to present the Xtra Factor later this year.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper Murs said: “Presenting was always a part-time thing for me.”

Instead the ‘Troublemaker’ singer is focused on his music career and touring in particular.

Murs explained: “When I’ve got the chance to promote my music around the world you can’t turn that down. It’s like being on tour – it’s a buzz you can’t recreate anywhere else.”

Some live dates that the X Factor graduate is particularly looking forward to are his support slots for Robbie Williams.

Olly revealed: “I saw Robbie on Tuesday and he didn’t give much away but just said it’s going to be big, massive and huge… If the Take That and Knebworth shows are anything to go by, it’s going to be special.”

Away from the stage, he hopes that Robbie Williams will have some time to work on a collaboration: “We were talking about writing a song together after I said I thought his BRITs track was great. We might do something just to put online.”

On the subject of Williams’ recent duet with Dizzee Rascal, Murs remarked: “I think what he’s done with Dizzee Rascal is brilliant – he’s getting bling.”

Olly Murs’ first date supporting Robbie Williams will take place in Manchester on June 18.
