Co-Star – Bout it / Bossin | @Co_StaR10

Tell us about yourself and your music? Joey: I’m from Liberia, came to America at 2 months. Most of my experiences in life are impacted from being a part of the Liberian community in America. I am highly affected by the music of Liberian culture which is Reggae, Hip-Hop, Afro-Beat, and Pop, which reflects in our music.

Pressure: I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. Being from Baltimore the environment conditions you to a certain mindset that molds you to trust no one, and to always be on guard. My parents did a great job to showing me that there was more to life, and planted in me values that made me better. Through my music I try to pull from all life experiences, and show a positive outlook, as well as inspire.

How would you describe your sound? Pressure: Our sound is fresh. It’s new. You can’t really categorize it. We touch all genres, which gives you an eclectic feel; from Hip-Hop, Reggae, R&B, and so on.

Joey: I would say it is everything that Pressure said. I would even go a step further and call it (urban-pop/international).

Talk about the experience making your single? Pressure: “Bout It”, it really just came together. We wanted to make a song that could be played in the club.

“Bossin” We wanted to get a mass group of people to relate to the feeling of wanting more. With this record I focused on saying a lot in the simplest way. Sometimes you just have to boss up, and take control of your situation.

Joey: “Bout It” Prior to hearing the beat we never really focused on making a song specifically for the club. When we heard the beat, we immediately felt that it was club song, and that’s really how it came together.

“Bossin” At the time that we recorded this we wanted to capture what we were going through mentally. This was feeling like our music hadn’t gotten to where we wanted it, and wanted to change it up a bit. We knew people could relate to the feeling of having a dream, going through trials and tribulations and having to push through.

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows? Pressure/Joey: We have so much music and material right now. Every day we come up with new ideas and ways to get out music out there. We are performing in different cities like Philly, Baltimore, Jersey, and pushing the brand as far as we can. Many blogs and media outlets are showing love to the newest record “Bout It/Bossin” and it’s taking off fast!

What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far? Since the beginning of this year we have been riding the buzz from the release of our album “Godspeed” that has received so much love. One of the biggest things that we did this year was performing at SXSW music festival in Austin, TX. We got the opportunity to network and mingle with top music execs in the game as well as major recording artists Lil Dicky, Kevin Gates, and Young Thug etc.

Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)? Joey: Maleek Berry (Nigerian/UK artist), Drake, Angel (UK Artist), and Chris Brown.

Pressure: Tate Kobang (recording artist of 300 Ent.), A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and J. Cole.

Name something random that people do not know about you? Joey: A lot people don’t know that I am an introvert because I seem extroverted.

Pressure: I play around a lot; it’s never a dull moment around me.

Pressure/Joey: We write all of our lyrics and do our own recording.

What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry? Pressure: It’s a lot of ground work that has to be covered before you get to see any profit. With that being said it is also a lot of ways to make residual income from your music/product. Most importantly just go hard!

Joey: You can make the greatest music that you want but if you don’t have a good following you really don’t have a music career.

What can we expect from you in the future? Joey: Looking forward to building a bigger fan base in the UK as well as performing in the UK “I love the culture”. You can also expect to be all around entertained. Whether it is from how we approach our videos to performances, as well as in our songs.

Pressure: The best music we’ve ever made.
