MOEBOCOP Interview and TECH BEACH Project @MOEBOCOP

Tell us about yourself and your music?

I am an artist and producer, experimental music maker and composer. I am most interested in creating sounds that are deep and interesting, but that melodically make sense. It is groovy, layered and textured and gives you a little extra kick with something to hold onto, kind of like an ice cream sundae with salsa and sprinkles but for your ears.

How would you describe your sound?

Instrumentals with a driving beat, trippy melody combined with experimental textures and sounds. The influences come from many different sources, and places. I like to play with sounds and weave them into my compositions to see if I can make something that melodically resonates and that you can return to over and over.

Talk about the experience making your single?

The EP was made over the past 6 months squeezed in between several other different projects and just life in general. I find that I can’t always just sit and spit things out artistically. I need to step away, come back to it, do other things, make other art and just live life. That way I will have something to say once I come back to pick up where I left off.  Normally, I make a lot of music for personal work and projects and with this work I finally said “Why not put it out and see what happens”? Thus the “Tech Beach” EP was born. The first of
many projects coming out over the next year.

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?

Aside from making music, I also am an artist and digital painter, so I bounce between different visual projects. Right now I am working on finding a way to sync up the visual work closer to the music which might take the form of a short film or other visual project. I am of course, working on a follow up to this EP as well.

What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?

Making the work is one part of the story, but getting the word out there is the other side of that coin. So, right now the release of the Tech Beach EP and promoting it has been taking up most of my time. It’s been great and a lot of fun and I am learning a lot as I go, which will serve to help with more releases in the future.

Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?
I have teamed up with with “Regenerated Headpiece” (an indie progressive hip hop group) on a remix for a single called “Alternative Facts” coming out soon. The message of the song speaks out about the current political climate in our country. I would love to also work with (in my perfect dream world) folks from different walks of the musical spectrum such as Felix Da Housecat, Tommy ‘86, Lifelike, College, Ladytron, Boards of Canada, Vitalic, The Revolutionaries, Artificial Intelligence and Weird Al Yankovic.

Name something random that people do not know about you?

In high school, my left lung randomly collapsed (it was a birth defect) so I had to finish the school year from the hospital. Who knew that could even happen?

What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?

In addition to making the work you also have to put muscle behind sharing your work and stand behind it too. It’s easy to create work and put it away and not share it. The reward comes with taking the risk of putting yourself out there. Just do it and see what happens. Otherwise, you don’t have the chance of seeing what you are capable of. So (re)discovering that’s been an ongoing learning for me.

What can we expect from you in the future?

Music is an ongoing emotional conversation of expression at any point and time. What I have to say artistically is going to change while experimenting with more and more sounds. So my answer is that what comes out of my brain is most likely going to be the biggest change. Whether through new technology, experimentation or inspiration I hope to make it interesting and fun. I’ll let you know how it goes on the next interview when it happens.
