JAGMAC interview: "In the future, some songs might sound a little bit different than others"

We chat with JAGMAC, who have recently released the new single 'Soldiers', and performed on the Breaking Acts Tour to find out all about the single and life on the road.

Your new single 'Soldiers' is brilliant! What was the inspiration behind creating such an empowering song?

Thank you! The inspiration was a collective collaboration among all the writers. We all agreed that this generation needs an empowering song that the average person can not only relate to, but can also dance to.  We are all essentially 'Soldiers' in the sense that we all are capable of overcoming struggles we have in life.

‘Soldiers’ is definitely more of a dance track than your previous singles, are you taking your music in a new direction or will be hearing more of your pop records soon?

Yes, this song is definitely more on the dance side, however it has a catchy/pop hook! Like all artists, we like to evolve with our music, trying new sounds and new flavours. The pop songs will always be around, so don't worry!

Now that you’re tackling the dance/club scene, are there any other genres you’d like to experiment with on future singles?

That's a tough one! It's so hard because we all love different types of music, so naturally we want to try them all, but we know which genres work with our sound and which ones don't. In the future, some songs might sound a little bit different than others but we will always make sure they keep the JAGMAC flare!

You’re currently on the Breaking Acts Tour which sees your travel around Butlins holiday parks. Which part of the UK that you’ve visited so far has been your favourite and why?

Yes, it's been an amazing journey so far being a part of the Breaking Acts Tour and being able to visit all the different venues! One of our favourite places would have to be the beach at Minehead. It has such a beautiful atmosphere with the waterfront view and the luscious, green hills all around.

The Breaking Acts Tour follows the Get Weird Tour – where you performed to sell-out crowds each night supporting Little Mix. What advice did the Little Mix girls give you about handling fame?

The Little Mix girls were very sweet. Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend much time with them. However, something we learned from that tour was to stay grounded and humble at all times and to treat everyone with respect.

Surprisingly, yes they do! It's always a fun treat to give the audience who have never seen it on stage before!

You’re jetting off back to the States soon to perform at Summer Sessions in Atlantic City for A List radio programmers and DJs – are you nervous about the gig?

Someone once told us, "If you don't get nervous before a show, that's never a good sign." For the most part, we always have some butterflies before a gig, but that soon fades away once we actually start singing and enjoying the performance. We are definitely nervous for Atlantic City, but we are also hopeful that good things will come out of it.

Summer Sessions has been described as the breakthrough moment for acts such as Lady Gaga, BeBe Rexha, Timbaland and Rita Ora. If you could collaborate with any of these artists, who would you choose and why?

They are all incredible artists in their own, unique way! If we could work with all of them in some way, we would!

You’ve been recording with some really impressive producers, including people who have worked with Miley Cyrus, Chris Brown, Rihanna, and David Bowie. What can you tell us about the music you’ve been working on?

There will always be something new, fresh, and exciting for our listeners.  As we said before, our sound will always be evolving in ways for the better!
