Paolo Nutini's 'Sunny Side Up' goes 6x platinum

Paolo Nutini has seen his 'Sunny Side Up' album achieve 6x platinum status in the UK.

The Scot released the record in 2009 and the sophomore effort features tracks like 'Candy' and 'Coming Up Easy'.

The BPI have now confirmed that the record has sold over 1.8m copies to make it go 6x platinum in the UK.

Spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "'Sunny Side Up' not only cemented Paolo's reputation as a leading British talent of his generation, it also helped to propel him to international stardom.

"Now well on its way to becoming a modern classic, with 6x Platinum status and nearly 2m sales in the UK alone, 'Sunny Side Up' is one of those career-defining recordings that remains in permanent demand as new fans discover Paolo's outstanding qualities as a singer-songwriter."

The announcement is a piece of much-needed good news for Nutini, who was forced into postponing two gigs in Glasgow this week due to illness.
