Paramore's Hayley Williams accuses new One Direction single of plagiarism

Paramore singer Hayley Williams believes One Direction's new single may have copied another song.

The British-Irish pop group unleashed their latest effort 'Steal My Girl' on Monday (September 29).

However, it seems to have struck Williams as having a copycat intro to a New Found Glory tune.

She reckons the opening section to 'Steal My Girl' sounds oddly similar to the pop-punk group's 2006 track 'It's Not Your Fault'.

Williams wrote on Twitter on Monday: "Beginning of that new 1D song couldn't sound any more like the beginning of @newfoundglory's "its not your fault" but.

"I realize that I'm gonna get hate from a very large fanbase for that. But really, it has more to do w/ whoever pitched or cowrote the song. Anyway, more pressing & positive matters to deal w/. Today is the 5th anniversary of Brand New Eyes! Wouldn't have made it w/out that album."

New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert commented on the comparison on Twitter, before concluding:

"Wow did not realize this was gonna be a story. It's not a story. My original tweet was a joke anyway. Music influences music. No one cares."

It's not the first time One Direction's songwriting team have been accused of plagiarism, with some of their previous songs likened to acts like The Who, Def Leppard, The Clash and the Grease song 'Summer Nights'.
